CAMP NOTES

• Camp sessions are typically 9AM-4PM Monday through Friday

• Exceptions: FUNdamentals of Acting Camp (9AM-noon or 1PM-4PM)

• Camps held at ROYAL Theatre Company's Main Street Studio – 308 West Main Street, Mason

• Campers should pack a "nut-free" lunch each day and bring a water bottle.

• Comfortable clothes and close-toed shoes are recommended.

• Minimum of 5 Campers Per Week /Maximum of 25.

Camp Descriptions:

June 3-7, 2019 - Creative Beginners Drama

Haven’t had a chance to try out your acting skills, but hoping to start? This camp is for you! While playing classic acting games, you will learn acting techniques to help you feel more comfortable on stage which is key to auditioning and performing. You will put your creativity to work as you brainstorm with other students to produce and perform your own production for friends/family at the end of the camp. Ages 8-14.

 

June 10-14, 2019 - FUNdamentals of Acting

Through fun acting games, young aspiring actors will learn about movement, stage orientation, and the “magic” that you can create in the theatre. No previous stage experience needed!  Each session will end with a small performance for friends/family to give you the experience of acting in front of a live audience. Don’t worry- no audition or memorization required! Ages 5-7.

 

June 17-21, 2019 - Food Glorious Food! – Broadway Camp

Join us as we dive into popular Broadway show tunes that all have one thing in common – Food Glorious Food! You’ll learn lyrics and choreography for all different types of Broadway hits like “Be Our Guest” from Beauty & the Beast; “Suppertime” from You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown; and “Big Blonde and Beautiful” from Hairspray, just to name a few! At the end of camp week, you will get to show off your beautiful voice and newfound dance moves in a small group performance for family/friends. Ages 10-17.

July 29- Aug 2, 2019 - And the Oscar Goes To? - Movie Camp

Whether you want to create viral videos for the web or start a career in film, this camp will be the perfect introduction to creating engaging film content and acting on camera. Learn techniques for acting in movies, commercials, and sketch comedy videos. You’ll master the basics of developing unique characters, writing scripts, and editing videos. Each student will receive access to their performances online to share with friends, family and Hollywood agents! Ages 10-17. 

 

Aug 5-9, 2019 - Once Upon a Wolf – Performance Camp

What happens when the Big Bad Wolf decides he (or she) doesn’t want to be “big” or “bad” anymore? What could possibly go wrong when the “bad guy” wants to become the hero of the story? One thing’s for sure…laughter will fill the air! Students will have the opportunity to audition for roles, plan costumes, create sets, and memorize lines all week. You will end the week with a hilarious performance of this modern twisted fairy tale for your friends/family! Ages 10-17.

 

About our Instructors:

Colin Thornton

Instructor Colin Thornton has been a ROYAL acting instructor for the past 8 years. He has been teaching and performing improv comedy for 17 years, and is currently the artistic director for Improv Cincinnati. Colin has directed dozens of performances for children at Town Hall Theatre and Center Stage Players. Colin also teaches with Dramakinetics, an arts-integration non-profit.

Brent Burington

Instructor Brent Alan Burington is an actor, director, writer, designer, and teacher based out of his hometown of Columbus, Ohio.  You may have seen him on television in commercials for Big Boy Restaurants, AT&T, Ohio Lottery, Dayton International Airport, and the Cincinnati Zoo. Or you have have seen him onstage. He has performed all over the country in his four solo shows, in two different national tours, and with Madcap Puppets. Locally, he has appeared in multiple shows at The Covedale Center, The Incline Theatre, The Showboat Majestic, and La Comedia Dinner Theater. 2018 marks his 25th year as a teacher.

Nick Washington

Nick has been teaching fifth grade in Mason for 16 years. Working with children has always been a passion of his. In his spare time, he enjoys playing the piano and writing music and has worked with Mason Community players along with doing the Broadway Musical camp for ROYAL for the past 7 summers.

JW Myers

JW comes to us from Maryland for the second summer this year to share his videographer skills in our Movie Camp. His credits include owner of Route 40 films and well-known producer for: A Christmas Tree Miracle (2013), The Pledge (2011) and Flamingo Dreams (2000). He instructs acting for films and on-camera scene study classes across the country each year.
