Summer camps are one week long from 9:00AM-4:00PM throughout June,  July, and August. Topics such as musical theatre, movie making, a play in a week, and basic acting are offered.

CAMP NOTES
  • Camps run 9:00AM-4:00PM Monday through Friday (except Young Actors Half Day Camp).

  • Camps held at ROYAL Theatre Company's Main Street Studio – 308 West Main Street, Mason

  • Campers should pack a "nut-free" lunch each day and bring a water bottle.

  • Comfortable clothes and close-toed shoes are recommended.

  • Minimum of 5 Campers Per Week /Maximum of 25.

Camp Descriptions:

JUNE 11-15 - YOUNG ACTORS HALF DAY CAMP – AM

With a focus on movement, stage orientation, and fun acting games, this introductory class is perfect for the young aspiring actor with minimal stage experience. Each class will end with a small performance for the parents to give the kids the experience of acting for an audience, without the stresses of auditioning or memorization.

JUNE 11-15 - YOUNG ACTORS HALF DAY CAMP – PM

With a focus on movement, stage orientation, and fun acting games, this introductory class is perfect for the young aspiring actor with minimal stage experience. JUNE 18-22 - BEGINNING ACTING CAMP

Students will learn acting techniques that will help them be comfortable on stage, inspiring a more truthful and powerful performance. In addition to being introduced to classic acting games and improvisation, the students will collectively brainstorm, produce, and perform a production for friends and family at the end of the session. This class is a great way for kids to get their feet wet with auditioning and performing.

JUNE 25-29 - PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP CAMP

"Once Upon a Wolf " - Want to see what it is like to put together a full show in one week? This is the workshop for you! Students will audition for roles, plan costumes, create sets, and memorize lines all week and perform for family on the final day of class.

JULY 9-13 - BROADWAY MUSICALS CAMP

Perfect class for the older student who is interested in singing, dancing, and acting – A triple threat! Students will learn songs and choreography from popular Broadway shows throughout the week. A small performance for family and friends will be given on the last day of the session.

AUG. 6-10 - MAKING MOVIES

Whether you want to pursue viral videos for the web or you want to start a career in film, this camp will be your introduction to acting on camera. Learn techniques for acting in movies, commercials, and sketch comedy videos. Master the basics of editing videos, writing scripts, and developing unique characters. Each student will receive access to their performance online to share with friends, family and Hollywood agents!

About our Instructors:

Colin Thornton

Instructor Colin Thornton has been a ROYAL acting instructor for the past 7 years. He has been teaching and performing improv comedy for 17 years, and is currently the artistic director for Improv Cincinnati. Colin has directed dozens of performances for children at Town Hall Theatre and Center Stage Players. Colin also teaches with Dramakinetics, an arts-integration non-profit.

Brent Knipper, BFA Musical Theatre, Ball State University

Instructor Brent Knipper Asst. Recruitment Coordinator for Ball State's Dept. of Theatre and Dance (4 Years), worked closely in workshops, cabarets, musicals, plays, and showcases with industry professionals such as Bill Osetek (Artistic Directory Drury Lane Oakbrook Chicago), Sutton Foster (2 Time Tony Award Winner), Rachel Hoffman (Casting Director Telsey and Company), Michael Rafter (Broadway Music Director), Eric Emery (L.A. Casting Manager), Billy Murphy (Casting Director ABC Television) and others.

Nick Washington

Nick has been teaching fifth grade in Mason for 16 years. Working with children has always been a passion of his. In his spare time, he enjoys playing the piano and writing music and has worked with Mason Community players along with doing the Broadway Musical camp for ROYAL for the past 7 summers.

JW Myers

JW comes to us from Maryland for the second summer this year to share his videographer skills in our Movie Camp. His credits include owner of Route 40 films and well-known producer for: A Christmas Tree Miracle (2013), The Pledge (2011) and Flamingo Dreams (2000). He instructs acting for films and on-camera scene study classes across the country each year.

Heather Hopster

Assistant Heather Hopster has been with ROYAL for the past three years as our class and camp assistant.  She currently studies international sign language at Cincinnati State Technical Community College. She also instructs cooking classes and has assisted in Dramakinetics classes.
